Growth without boundaries

PeriLogistics, Chilean logistics company specialized in pharmaceutical products, implemented Oracle ERP Cloud, hand in hand with Extend IT, to modernize its technology landscape and adapt its processes to international best practices.

PeriLogistics is specialized in handling products that require a cold chain, particularly pharmaceuticals, and always guarantees excellence, speed, punctuality and efficiency in logistics and distribution throughout Chile, including the island territories. With remarkable growth in recent years, the company began to need modernization: an innovation-enabled platform designed and ready to accommodate future technological innovations.

The selection fell on Oracle ERP Cloud with the support of the technology partner Extend IT. The solution allowed PeriLogistics to meet its three initial objectives: to obtain state-of-the-art technology that supports the business over a long-term horizon, reducing investment risk, to incorporate applications that facilitate the adoption of best practices to guarantee the achievement of business and to develop a phased implementation plan that makes it easier for the organization to manage change, pose the main challenges in the short term and grow as required by the business while providing support in the long term.

“As a logistics operator, our main feature is that we serve all our customers in a personalized way, adapting to their requirements,” explains Manuel Torres, IT manager at PeriLogistics. “Extend IT understood our way of understanding the business and positioned itself more as a partner than as a provider when it came to providing us with a solution to face our challenge,” he added. A characteristic of Oracle ERP Cloud is that it was designed for the cloud: it is not an adaptation of a previous system, but rather a tool developed from scratch for this new environment. This turned out to be a fundamental characteristic to lower the expected levels of resistance to the change that occurs every time a company undertakes a project of this magnitude. “Since the new platform is 100% web-based, we made them see that it didn’t differ much from the tools they used on a daily basis for their personal matters, from consulting home banking to buying in an online store or checking their personal email,” said Torres. “This allowed us to leverage with users and get them to understand how the application worked as we progressed through the different steps of the project,” he added.

Among the successes there is a live output in a timely manner. “We had testimonies from other companies that told us that problems had appeared when making the system work and they had had to roll back or that it had taken weeks beyond what was budgeted: it was not our case, we were able to start the day we had initially advertised,” said Torres.

Extend IT’s role in this accuracy was key. “They care beyond what is stipulated in the contract and provide real support in change management and in all the steps of the project, from gathering requirements to commissioning,” said Torres, who added that “in the face of any contingency that may occur, we have the security and the certainty that they will be there and that they will have a solution to offer”.

Among the benefits that PeriLogistics has obtained with this implementation there is the possibility of updating its structure and the modernization of procedures to adapt them to a world-class system. In Torres’ words, the more the company uses the system, the more opportunities it presents. “We thought small: with this solution we are ready to go one step further and grow without boundaries. We know where we start and how far we can go”, concluded Torres.
